My reporting, writing and editing skills are demonstrated in two articles I wrote for The Forum.
One article was about the Men’s Golf Team at Westminster University. The story was focused around how they didn’t have a coach for a time. I interviewed several players, coaches and the Athletic Director. I was able to navigate the difficulty of highlighting different perspectives in one story while still focusing on the main point. Embracing this challenge helped me become a better writer.
Another article was a journalistic piece about Westminster University’s student government (ASW). I reached out to several students, the President of ASW and the Dean of Students to gather information. I used my journalism skills to create a story that was timely and concise.

Westminster University Griffins Athletics announced David Tottori as the new men’s golf team coach Oct. 12, according to a press release by Griffins Athletics.
The men’s golf team at Westminster was experiencing coaching changes when their coach from the last two years resigned, leaving them without a full-time coach.
Zach Dallimore, a member of the men’s golf team and double major in marketing and management, said Denise Larson, the women’s golf coach, took responsibility to oversee both teams. He talked about the team’s attitude during this transition.
“It seemed like everyone kind of stepped up and took on a bigger role and was willing to take on more responsibility.” Dallimore said. “So yeah, I actually feel like it was a good thing.”

Westminster University focuses campus events on inclusivity and student well- being, according to Janet Reyes, the associate director of student engagement and belonging.
“My number one priority is to acknowledge, embrace, and honor students’ authentic selves,” Reyes said. “That allows us to create a more welcoming community where students feel seen, heard, included, and respected.”
Another key goal of campus events is to get students more connected to happenings at Westminster which could prepare them for future success, according to Dr. Glenn Smith, the vice president of student affairs and athletics.
“Students who are connected and engaged are the most successful academically, socially and developmentally,” Smith said.
